Audience engagement

In 2021, Sabrina Vernhage, Germán Greinier and Rafaele Andrade had created a platform to enable audience control and manipulation of a music composition or an electroacoustic musical instrument.

Goals

Audience engagement is nowadays a question not only for musicians, but also for concert halls and art councils: it explores the feedback of user experience and its involvement. The lack of young public is definitely a factor affecting most classic music practices nowadays and we believe that participation and shareability has a great factor of implication on it. This research give some positive perspectives how to proceed on the concert of the future: If we are able to share, to listen and are ready to react with the other, we are able to build a sense of community in a stage between music and its public.

Application

Based on some studies about user experience, Rafaele designed a music structure based on 4 phase experiences that humans used to sense when experiencing a new platform/tool (not per se in a linear way). They can be described as: Learning phase, Exploratory phase, Observation, Redesign. Based on those phases, the web platform structure was designed to offer those experiences in different sections, having 4 different web pages, its sequence gradually progress the feeling that the participants are collaborating with each other. Those phases also guide tha participant to experience the performance from an introspective to a extroverted music approach. The goal is make audience feel included and collaborating with each other.
